A new passport is normally issued when the current passport has expired after 10 years from the date of its first issue or when the visa pages have been exhausted. Application for new passports should be made well in advance of the expiry of the current passport. Before the application is completed, applicants are kindly requested to read the instructions.

 

      General Information

  • Application forms for new passports can be obtained from the Consular Section of the Embassy by sending a self addressed stamped envelope with a request or it may be downloaded from the Embassy website www.srilanka.no

 

  • All application forms are issued free of charge.

 

 

 

  • Regular passports are issued only by the Controller-Immigration Emigration, Colombo. Usually it takes approximately three (03) months to issue a passport after submitting an application.

 

  • Current passport should be submitted to the Embassy when the new passport is collected at the Embassy. It will be returned to the applicant, after cancellation, together with the new passport.

 

  • If the applicant wants to have new passport received by post, applicant has to provide a self-addressed, prepaid special delivery envelope, stamped equivalent to the weight of the new passport and the old passport.

 

  • Once the new passport is received from the Controller of Immigration & Emigration in Colombo, applicant will be notified by a letter or by phone.

 

  • The Embassy is not responsible for any documents lost in the post.

 

  • Any inquiry relating issuance of passports should be made between 9.00 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. to the Consular Division Telephone No. 23 13 69 50 – Monday through Friday.

 

  • Payment of NOK 1455- could be made in cash at the counter or to the Embassy Bank account No.7058.05.77189 DnB NOR Bank. Please ensure to attach a copy of paid deposit slip along with the application forms.

 

  • Please note that submission of forged documents such as Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, National Identity Card and other documents, or making false documents relating to the citizenship status is an offence and no refund of fees is possible in such instances.

 


     Application Procedure

  • Following forms have to be duly completed and should be forward to the Consular Section of the Embassy well in advance.

 

  1. IM 35 K Form
    All the cages from 1-20 are to be completed and the applicant's signature in the second page must be attested by a Justice of Peace, Attorney-at-Law/Solicitor General or Practitioner. Please ensure to place the official frank of the attester below his/her signature. One photograph should be pasted at the top of the first page of the application form.

 

  1. IM 35 B Form
    The form should be attested by the same attester who has signed the I M 35 K form. Two photographs should be pasted within the boarders of the two cages on the form. The attester's signature and seal should be placed on the verification photograph. The signature of the applicant should be placed well within the two cages. The attester should sign the declaration and place his seal and date.

 

  1. Declaration form D-3
    This form should be duly completed and handed over to the Embassy along with other documents.

 

  • Duly completed above applications (preferably in block letters) should be forwarded to the Consular Section of the Embassy with the following documents.

 

  1. Current passport with two copies of each photo page and visa pages

 

  1. Three color photographs (taken within three months) size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm. Two photographs have to be pasted on the photo/signature card of IM 35 B Form. One photograph has to be attested on the reverse.

 

  1. Original Birth Certificate with two photocopies

 

  1. Original Marriage Certificate with two photocopies, if the applicant has changed the name after marriage. If the marriage has been registered outside Sri Lanka, such Marriage Certificate should be countersigned by the relevant authority

 

  1. If the profession needs to be included in the passport, original professional certificate with two photocopies and a letter from the employer should be submitted. Please make sure to get the attestation from the Consular Division of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry on professional certificates.

 

  1. Documents relating to the present visa status of the applicant, if the visa is not stamped on the passport.

 

  1. Any applicant who is on an indefinite visa for over one year is required to submit a letter from UDI, confirming that the applicant has not already acquired Norwegian Citizenship.

 

  1. All original certificates will be returned to the applicant after perusal.
