Labor forces: 37.4 per cent agriculture, 41.8 per cent industry and commerce, 17.9 per cent service industries.

 

 

 

Climate: Lowlands - tropical, average 27oC. Central hills: Cooler, with temperatures dropping to 16oC. The South-west monsoon brings rain to the western, southern and central regions from May to July, while the north-eastern monsoon occurs in the north and east in December and January.

 

 

 

Currency: Sri Lanka Rupees Bank notes - Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs. 100, Rs. 200, Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000; Coins - Rs.1, Rs. 2, Rs. 5, Rs.10; and 5 cent, 10 cent, 25 cent and 50 cent coins.
